Today, we profile  Rawi Abdelal  from Harvard Business School (HBS). Rawi Abdelal  is the Herbert F. Johnson Professor of International Management and the director of Harvard’s Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies. In addition to teaching, he serves as a faculty associate for such groups as Harvard’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs and the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies. His first book,  National Purpose in the World Economy: Post-Soviet States in Comparative Perspective  (Cornell University Press, 2001), won the 2002 Shulman Prize for outstanding monograph dealing with the international relations, foreign policy, or foreign-policy decision making of any former Soviet Union or Eastern European state. In August 1953, a coup dà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ÃƒÆ'tat that was put in order and led by CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) overthrew Muhammad. He was instantly arrested; however his imprisonment encouraged major public demonstrations that were ultimately crushed by regime troops. He was arrested for a second time in 1964 and sent into exile to Turkey then to Iraq. He lectured and wrote for 15 years about the regime in his country. He continued his open denunciations, mounting a strong political and religious following abroad. In 1978 he was evicted from Iraq by Saddam Hussein fleeing to France. In 1979 the Iranian government was overthrown marking the return of Khomeini. He was excitedly welcomed by people. He started to exercise vital authority in the country and affirmed an Islamic nation.In 1979, Khomeini approved the takeov er of U.S Embassy by mobilizing Islamic students to arrange a siege on the embassy in Teheran whereby they took its entire staff and 66 Americans on hostage. The activists commanded that Shah be returned to face charges also that return billions of dollars he had taken abroad. Ayatollah Khomeinià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s inspirations during this time lead to terrorist bombings, coups, assaults and hijackings against a demonized West.
